VIPS - Vertically Integrated Projects
VIPS208 Starting with Vertically Integrated Projects (1-2 Credits)
Team members beginning their experience with VIP@Maryland will engage on interdisciplinary and vertically-integrated teams with a focus on research, design, industry competition, entrepreneurship, and community engagement projects related to active research and exploration areas of UMD faculty members. Students will also participate in lectures and professional development activities that include topics related to design, research, documentation and technical writing, communication, leadership and teamwork, ethics, project management, intellectual property, information literacy, and introduction to a broad range of applicable research topics, technologies and development tools. Students are expected to maintain involvement with the same project team for multiple terms.
Restriction: Permission of ENGR-Dean-Office of Global Engineering Leadership.
Repeatable to: 8 credits.

VIPS308 Engaging with Vertically Integrated Projects (1-2 Credits)
Team members will expand their role and responsibilities on their selected VIP@Maryland team. They will engage on interdisciplinary and vertically-integrated teams with a focus on research, design, industry competition, entrepreneurship, and community engagement projects related to active research and exploration areas of UMD faculty members. Students will also participate in lectures and professional development activities that include topics related to design, research, documentation and technical writing, communication, leadership and teamwork, ethics, project management, intellectual property, information literacy, and introduction to a broad range of applicable research topics, technologies and development tools. Students are expected to maintain involvement with the same project team for multiple terms.

VIPS408 Leading with Vertically Integrated Projects (1-2 Credits)
Advanced team members will take on mentorship and leaderships roles within their VIP@Maryland project. They will engage on interdisciplinary and vertically-integrated teams with a focus on research, design, industry competition, entrepreneurship, and community engagement projects related to active research and exploration areas of UMD faculty members. Students will also participate in lectures and professional development activities that include topics related to design, research, documentation and technical writing, communication, leadership and teamwork, ethics, project management, intellectual property, information literacy, and introduction to a broad range of applicable research topics, technologies and development tools. Students are expected to maintain involvement with the same project team for multiple terms.
