Academic Programs
The School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) is the primary academic unit devoted to instruction and research in the world's languages, literatures, cinema, and cultures. It consists of the Departments of Arabic, East Asian Languages and Cultures, French and Italian, German Studies, Persian, Russian, and Spanish and Portuguese, as well as the Cinema and Media Studies and Second Language Acquisition programs.

The Persian Flagship Program (https://sllc.umd.edu/special-programs/arabic-persian/persian-flagship), educating global professionals with superior command of Persian and a deep understanding of the life and cultures of the Persian-speaking countries of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Project GO (https://sllc.umd.edu/special-programs/arabic-persian/project-go), a Department of Defense initiative that promotes critical language education, study abroad, and intercultural dialogue opportunities through language study.

The Language Partner Program (https://globalmaryland.umd.edu/offices/international-students-scholar-services/sllc-isss-ea-language-partner-program), allowing students to practice their target language outside of the classroom and in conversation with international student partners.

Summer Language Institutes in Arabic, Korean, and Persian (https://sllc.umd.edu/special-programs/arabic-persian/summer-langage-institutes) offering nine-week long language and culture programs for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students.

The Language House (https://sllc.umd.edu/special-programs/language-house) is the oldest and one of the most successful living-learning programs on campus, offering immersion experiences in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

Scholarships and Financial Assistance
The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) administers a variety of federal, state, and institutional financial assistance programs, and, in cooperation with other university offices, participates in the awarding of scholarships to deserving students. Awards and Recognition
